T.G. PSYOP

T.G. PSYOP
By definition a psychological operation (or PSYOP) is an operation to convey selected information and indicators to audiences to influence their emotions, motives, and objective reasoning, and ultimately their behaviour. This certainly sounds like a day of fly-fishing to me!

While the T.G. PSYOP may look like just another generic nymph, it is actually constructed of a number of materials that when combined have proven to trigger fish to feed. First, the bead acts as a subtle attractor as well as getting the fly into the strike zone fast. Second, the general thin shape of the fly mimics a vast array of aquatic insect life and therefore is on every fish’s menu. Finally, the subtle flash that is incorporated into the fly makes it highly visible but, in a life-like manner which helps to ensure it gets eaten. This fly is easy to tie and works great when targeting trout, grayling and whitefish throughout Alberta and Montana.

Materials
Hook: Tiemco TMC 2457 - size 16
Thread: UTC 70 – rusty brown
Bead: Tungsten 5/64” bead – black nickel
Tail: Krystal Flash – rusty brown
Rib: UTC ultra wire brassie - gold
Body: UTC 70 – rusty brown
Wingcase: Holographic 1/16” tinsel - black
Thorax: Ice Dub – peacock
Legs: Krystal Flash – rusty brown
Adhesive: Solarez UV cure – thin
Other: Permanent marker - black
Tying Instructions
Step 1. Thread the bead onto the hook and then insert the hook into the vise.
Step 2. Attach the thread and wrap down to the mid point of the hook.
Step 3. Tie down 3 strands of krystal flash. Wrap back over the strands so that they extend one hook gap length off the back of the hook. Trim to length.
Step 4. Wrap the thread forward to the point just behind the bead binding down a 2” length of gold wire in the process.
Step 5. Spiral wrap the gold wire in equal segments up the body. Tie off behind the bead and “helicopter” away the excess wire.
Step 6.Tie down a piece of holographic tinsel behind the bead and take 4 wraps down the hook binding the tinsel down.
Step 7. Twist a pinch of peacock ice dub onto the thread and wrap forward creating a bulky thorax that ends directly behind the bead.
Step 8. Using a figure-eight wrap, bind down behind the bead 3 strands krystal flash, resulting in 3 legs on each side of the body.
Step 9. Trim the krystal flash legs so they extend back to the bend in the hook.
Step 10. Pull the holographic tinsel over the top of the thorax and krystal flash legs tie-in point. Bind down directly behind the bead and trim away excess tinsel.
Step 11. Colour a 1” section of the thread with black permanent marker and whip finish behind the bead. Cut the thread.
Step 12. Carefully apply a small drop of Solarez UV cure to the top of the holographic tinsel wingcase and thread wraps. Cure the resin with UV light, or sunlight, to form a transparent raised bulge giving the wingcase a three-dimensional appearance.
Step 13.If needed, pluck out some of the dubbed thorax fibers to give it a spikey appearance.

Your T.G. PSYOP is now complete and you are ready to head out On The Water!
