Pirá Lodge is isolated in the center of the Iberá Marshlands of Corrientes Province, in northern Argentina, a Natural Reserve over twice the size of the Florida Everglades. The Iberá Marshland is a vast system of crystal clear creeks, flowing rivers, shallows and lakes. For many years, one of Latin America´s most exciting game fish was kept a secret in its heartland. In the last few years, the golden dorado, or 'river tiger' as it is affectionately called in Argentina due to its impressive fighting spirit and jumping characteristics, has rocketed to the top of the hot fish list. The freshwater dorado is a hard fighting and acrobatic fish, well known for strong runs and relentless jumps.
At Pirá Lodge you will have plenty of opportunity to sight fish to dorado. The guides recommend 7 and 8 weight 9 foot rods, matched to quality reels spooled with floating lines and sinking heads. Traditional saltwater streamer patterns in black, purple, chartreuse and white complete the required gear. Pirá is a strictly catch and release fishery.
Built in a typical Corrientes style, the lodge was designed to respect the traditional local architecture while offering all of the comforts of a contemporary hotel and enjoys a spectacular panoramic view of the vast wetlands. It accommodates up to 10 guests in five large rooms, each with a private entrance, private bath, two double beds and air conditioning. A separate building, attached by covered galleries, accommodates the spacious living room, bar and dining room, each with tall doors which open up to the wide veranda. Pirá Lodge does not have a set schedule; therefore, rates for stays from four nights/three days up to seven nights/six days are available. Non-fishing rates are also available.
