Beadhead Krystal Dip

Beadhead Krystal Dip
The Beadhead Krystal Dip is a simple to tie variation of the Blue Ribbon Flies Serendipity pattern. By substituting midge flash for the deer hair wing of the original and adding a tungsten bead, a super effective trout catching nymph has been created.

While the tying instructions are for the most commonly used olive and pearl version, the Beadhead Krystal Dip can be tied in a wide variety of colors. This nymph is usually tied in sizes #14-18 but can be tied smaller or larger.

Materials
Hook: MFC #7045 (2x Heavy Scud Hook) - size 16
Thread: Uni-thread 8/0 – olive
Weight: Tungsten bead, 3/32” (2.3 mm) – black nickel
Rib: UTC ultra wire medium - copper
Body: Uni-thread 8/0 – olive
Thorax: Arizona synthetic dubbing – peacock
Wing: Midge flash - pearl

Tying Instructions
Step 1. Thread the bead onto the hook and then insert the hook into the vise.
Step 2. Attach the thread and wrap it down to the 2/3 point of the hook.
Step 3. Tie down a 2” length of copper wire to the shank of the hook by overwrapping with thread down to the point just past the bend of the hook.
Step 4. Return wrap the thread back over the wire, making sure no wire is visible. Stop the thread at the 2/3 point of the hook.
Step 5.Spiral wrap the copper wire in equal segments up the body and tie off behind the bead. Clip the wire off flush.
Step 6. Twist a pinch of Arizona synthetic dubbing onto the thread and proceed to build a small loose, thorax behind the bead.
Step 7. Bind down, using the loop method, four pieces of midge flash on top of the thorax.
Step 8. Cover the thread wraps with dubbing and then whip finish right behind the bead. If needed, pluck out some of the dubbing fibers to give the thorax a spikey appearance.
Step 9. Trim the midge flash so that it extends back 2/3 the length of the abdomen.

Your Beadhead Krystal Dip is now complete and you are ready to head out On The Water!
